learn to sing & tell a story through song!

tenja hagenberg comes with over 25 years experience in performing in venues both large and small, in canada and around the world. Tenja created performance on point in january 2018 to begin sharing her knowledge and insight in theatre, acting, and singing with aspiring performers in the niagara region.

performance on point now has over 50 students (with a waiting list) and we are so proud and excited to share in the JOURNEYS of our students as they explore the world of singing, acting, theatre, and more on different levels.

  • Lessons are conducted in Tenja’s west-end St. Catharines home, where there are multiple instruments and equipment at our disposal as needed through each lesson.

Each lesson is one hour in length, unless otherwise agreed upon, and includes warm-up and improvement of technique through working on songs or scenes.

  • Each year, Performance on Point presnts a Student Showcase, which also serves as a fundraiser for the Canadian Mental Health Association, Niagara Branch (a cause near and dear to the Hagenberg family).

Each student will have an opportunity to be in the spotlight on their own, and participate in group numbers.

Performance on Point also hosts different events throughout the year, providing opportunities to students to perform, and fundraise for other non-profits throughout the Niagara Region.

Tenja Hagenberg is an actor-singer-dancer based out of St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. She is a graduate of Sheridan College's Music Theatre Performance program.

Upon graduation, Tenja made Toronto home and spent years working in theatres across Canada; playing leading roles in Tommy, City of Angels, Baby, Copacabana and Eight To The Bar. She was also a featured pop'n'lock dancer for the Smirnoff Experience.

In 2004 she decided to venture abroad as a Principal Singer aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines. Through her adventures on the high seas, she had the opportunity to create her own one-woman show, headline a jazz big band, record her first solo CD, perform in the St. George's Music Festival in Bermuda and see the world!

In 2008 Tenia returned to Toronto to star in the Dora Award winning Evil Dead; The Musical playing the roles of Shelly & Annie in Toronto's Diesel Playhouse.

Tenja decided she wanted to see more of the world in 2010 and joined Princess Cruises as a Guest Entertainer. In her time based in Los Angeles with Princess Cruises she had the opportunity to work with top Hollywood stage directors and choreographers. It was a highlight in her career to be a part of the creative process and building of the new productions shows for their latest vessels. Building, playing, workshopping and taking the shows to the final product being performed onboard inaugural voyages of the Princess Cruises Royal Class Vessels.

Tena returned back to Canada in 2016 and decided to make St. Catharines her home once again, there really is no place like home. She has been performing with different production companies in the GTA and Niagara area; recent favourite credits include Ursula in The Little Mermaid (The Scotiabank Centre) and Donna in Mamma Mia (Greg Frewin Theatre). Tenja, along with director, Monica Dufault, created and produced her one-woman show Around the World And Home Again; A benefit for Canadian Mental Health Association in April of 2018 and plans to bring it back to stages around Ontario. When Tenja Is not performing on stage she loves sharing her expertise with her students at her company Performance On Point!

Co-directors Hutch and Bailey are here to cheer on the students of Performance On Point every step of the way!

My technique in my teaching is based around working scales & vocal tech and alongside that is finding “tricks’ for one to ‘find’ their voice. I feel that in lessons; as a continued student myself and working with my students, we can get in our own way because we are overthinking the ‘singing’.

That’s where the ‘tricks’ come into play, working the acting, the lyrics and the imagination behind the notes whether singing a scale or an aria! I have had much success and have seen tremendous growth in my students with their confidence, and getting out of their own way to be the best versions of themselves, and to ‘tell the story’ in auditions, on stage, in a classroom or in rehearsals.

testimonials

  • We have had nothing but amazing great experiences with Tenja. She finds ways to relate to my son and to bring out the performer side of him. The balance between having him be comfortable and challenged has given him greater confidence with his drama academy. He has grown in his vocals and confidence.

  • My son had an interest and love for acting and singing for a large part of his life and was fast-tracked to fulfill his dream of acting thanks to Performance on Point!!!! I found an amazing teacher for my son. The best thing we did was to start working with Tenja, and Performance on Point! My son improved so much with the incredible training and guidance he received at every lesson. He gained so much confidence as his voice improved with all the new techniques of projecting his voice, the special tricks of reaching notes he never knew he could reach and encouragement he received.

  • My daughter Holly works with Tenja and what a huge difference it has made. She is helping Holly get over her anxiety about auditions and is helping her find her voice. For the first time Holly is willing to sing in front of us. We hear a huge difference. Thank you Tenia.
